Coping with an Uphill Lie

The method for uphill and downhill lies is: To always position your weight on the lower foot and the ball position a little closer to the higher foot.

The approach to the 2nd, 6th, 9th, 11th, 13th and 16th can all have this type of lie. How many of us come up short of the green on all these holes? This is because the slope adds effective loft and sends the ball higher into the air. The ball has further to fly if the green is higher and therefore simply doesn’t reach. Therefore a stronger less lofted club will be needed. Again this will depend on the severity of the slope and can only be selected through experience. Due to the added rotation in the golf swing and use of the hands and arms to get the club up the slope, there will also be hook spin imparted onto the ball which will send it to the left in flight. Adjustments should be made to your alignment to counter this effect. The uphill lie and its method is quite simply a mirror image of the downhill lie. This is why it is easy to remember. Our method now states that the weight should be on the lower foot (right foot for right-handed players) and ball positioned close to the higher foot (left for right-handed players).

DON’T LET YOUR ROUND GO DOWNHILL!

I am sure method will clarify your shot and give you a positive outlook/confidence in the shot you are about to play. Never forget to try and visualize your shot beforehand and analyse its flight afterwards. This will aid your mental computer for the future.
