HDGC Golf Academies for Beginners and Juniors
Harewood Downs golf club in Bucks, South Buckinghamshire near Amersham, High Wycombe, Uxbridge and Watford. Challenging course, great hospitality & stunning views. For those who are taking up golf or do not have a handicap, the Club runs a Golf Academy, which is intended to provide the stepping stone to full membership. Golf lessons and coaching sessions are conducted by our Head Professional – Geoff Morris and his Assistant Professional – Evie Ing. A new sheltered practice facility was opened in 2015 looking over the Chiltern Hills to support our driving range, short game area, practice net and putting green to help you improve your golf.
We arrange group golf lessons and organise monthly roll-ups for the Academy Members. At these roll-ups Academy members will have the opportunity to play golf on the course with full members of HDGC who are more than willing to pass on their knowledge of Harewood GC.
Academy members have full access to the Clubhouse and are encouraged to join in with the social life at the Club. An Academy Member can receive a Club Card which allows them to buy food and drink at the members discounted prices.
When Academy members achieve the required handicap (28 for Men and 36 for Ladies), we invite them to apply to join as a full member. You are expected to transfer from the Academy in to Full Membership within two years.

JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMY
For those younger aspiring golfers we have a Junior Academy for boys and girls aged between 8 and 12 years old. The club is GolfMark accredited by England Golf so that parents and grandparents are guaranteed that Harewood Downs GC provides a safe and structured environment at all times.
Our intention is to give the opportunity to young people to try golf without fully joining a Golf Club. The Academy is a more economical alternative to ‘Have a Go’ without committing to the mainstream Cadets Section. The Academy members will be able to use the practice facilities, have lessons with our Professionals and to go onto the golf course when it is particularly quiet accompanied by an adult member of the Club.
HDGC will organise regular group lessons which will be subsidised and allow the young stars of the future to develop the love of the game in conjunction with others of a similar age. There are regular school holiday coaching sessions organised by Evie Ing.
The Junior Academy fee is only £40 and then they can move into the Cadets Section to continue to develop their golfing abilities.
Application forms are available from the office and for further information contact our Junior Organisers:
Stan Griffiths on 01494 722076 for Boys.
Lucy Morris on 01494 864614 for Girls.
Both Beginners and Junior Academy members are restricted to play on the golf course until the Professional is satisfied they are ready. To this end they must first have a FREE lesson with the Club Professional to enable that assessment to be made. It may well be that the Professional will recommend further lessons or that the applicant will request these. Until the time that their playing on the course is approved, Academy Members may use the practice ground. Lesson fees are paid to the Professional. Once approved Academy members are encouraged to play the course at quiet times. They can do this playing on their own, with other Academy members or with Club members who they know.
