Harewood Downs is extremely proud to be the home of one of the most prestigious Junior events in England, which is the Douglas Johns Trophy. It attracts the best under 15 year old golfers from around the country. The tournament is organised by the Bucks Berks & Oxford County Union with more than 80 entries. The Douglas Johns has such famous winners and competitors as; Justin Rose (1995), Luke Donald, Ollie Fisher (2003) and Toby Tree (2009) all who now enjoy a professional golfing career.
Alex Fitzpatrick the younger brother of Matthew Fitzpatrick won the event in 2014 and last year Barclay Brown, and all three of them are from the same South Yorkshire club (The Hallamshire GC).We were delighted that Barclay Brown (+ 1 handicap) came back this year to defend his title along with 59 other young talented golfers playing 36 holes on Thursday 28th July.
The morning round recorded some excellent golf with five boys scoring par or better. The best score was a 65 (-4 under) in the clubhouse by Enriques Dimayuga of Cuddington GC followed by a 66 by Conor Gough of Stoke Park and a 67 was Callum Macfie of Lindrick GC.
The wind was a little stronger in the afternoon and a late shower affected the scoring. The best score in the afternoon was a 69 (par) by Gregor McKenzie of Kirtlington GC and James Gregory of Stoke Park and Ben Miller of Harpenden Common scored a 70 in the second round.
The Douglas Johns winner for 2016 was Conor Gough of Stoke Park GC with a level score of 138 for two rounds and the runner up was Callum Macfie of Lindrick GC with 141(+3) and third place was Eddie Turner-Bennet of Rufford Park GC
2017 date is Thursday 27th July - entry forms are available from the BB & O Website and there are practice days on25th and 26th July.
