Derek and Vanessa are pleased to be supporting Iain Rennie Hospice at Home in their Captains year.
Iain Rennie Hospice at Home is a registered charity offering specialist and supportive care and advice for patients with cancer and other life threatening illnesses in their homes. They aim to help the relatives and those carers close to the patient during the illness and bereavement period.
The service is available 365 days a year and offers patients and carers access to specialist advice and nursing visits on a 24 hour on-call basis.
Iain Rennie Hospice at Home has played a leading role in the development of hospice at home care which allows patients diagnosed with life-limiting illness the choice to be cared for at home surrounded by their friends and family.
The service started in 1985 when Iain Rennie became our first patient. Five nurses came together to provide the nursing care needed for Iain, his wife Moira and their young family to be cared for at home on a 24 hour basis. Moira remains a strong supporter and is Co-President of today’s organization, Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care. In 2010, IRHH celebrated its 25th anniversary and cared for its 10,000th patient.
In April 2011 Iain Rennie Hospice at Home merged with Grove House Hospice inSt Albans. The two organizations had already been working together for several years to support thousands of local families coping with life-threatening illness combining IRHH’s specialism in hospice at home care with Grove House’s renowned day hospice care.
The merged organization is now offering care tailored to patients’ needs, whether that is end of life care or support through treatment and into remission. The charity’s free of charge services also include support for all the family following diagnosis, during the illness and after bereavement. Our nurses work closely with other healthcare professionals, striving to eliminate hospital admissions where possible and making the choice to stay at home a reality for thousands of patients across Bucks and Herts each year.
