Harewood Downs Golf Club has now completed its Green Replacement Programme with the rebuilding of the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 11th, 12th and 13th greens.
The Club took a decision to rebuild its greens to USGA specification more than 10 years ago; USGA greens are sand based and are designed to be playable all the year round. The original course at Harewood Downs was laid out in 1907 and all the greens were constructed as clay bowls which was the most popular method at that time but as they became older these greens held more and more water and became almost unplayable in the winter.
With the help of our Course Architect, Simon Gidman, the greens have not only been rebuilt but we have moved two greens, lengthening the course to more than 6,000 yards and have improved the bunkering and mounding. In doing this we have taken great care not to change the historic character of Harewood Down’s greens which are famous (or notorious) for their slopes and subtle borrows.
This exciting programme has been a major commitment and investment in the future by the Members of Harewood Downs Golf Club
The final seven holes were opened when Justin Rose visited in May, returning to the course where he won the prestigious Douglas Johns Trophy as a junior in 1995.
The club looks forward to welcoming new Members, Societies and Visitors.
